#b#Recognition for Nurses#/b#

CURE, published by CURE Media Group based in Plainsboro, is accepting essay nominations for the 2015 Extraordinary Healers Award for Oncology Nursing, a program recognizing nurses whose compassion, expertise, and helpfulness have made an incredible impact for someone affected by cancer.

CURE invites cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and oncology nurses from across the country to submit a 400 to 1,000 word nominating essay describing what makes a particular nurse an extraordinary healer. Essays will be accepted through mail or online through Friday, February 20.

“Many cancer patients and families feel a significant bond with an oncology nurse who gets to know them, helping them along the roller-coaster-ride that is cancer,” said Mike Hennessy Jr., president of CURE Media Group. “One could imagine that these are special people, but each year the stories from our readers really drive that point home with examples of oncology nurses who are going above and beyond.”

Oncology nursing is a challenging field that blends specialized medical knowledge with a desire to support patients and families impacted by cancer. The complexities of evolving cancer treatments call upon oncology nurses to remain well-educated, independent thinkers while also providing comfort, education and advocacy for patients undergoing complicated, sometimes long-term treatments for the disease.
