I sit here in utter amazement upon hearing about yet another car/cyclist incident in West Windsor. Recently a friend of mine was cycling on Alexander Road. He wears a camera on his helmet and was able to document being clipped by a car with its mirror. Once, again, no charges, no ticket for the driver. After all, according to the report, the driver didn’t “see” him. That makes it excusable? Seriously?
What incentive does that driver have to be more careful? Actually, I already know the answer — the answer is none! It’s no news that I have been a strong, vocal advocate in lobbying for safer pedestrian/cyclist accommodations, as well as for a cultural shift in the way drivers view them. I have had a fair amount of pushback and am even proud to say that I have made a few enemies along my journey. Of course, in the words of Dr Seuss, “And say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind!”
