In a sea of pink and red tablecloths, centerpieces, jackets, dresses, ties and scarves, over 175 people gathered in the SFMC Cafe to celebrate the 2nd Annual Go Pink Go Red luncheon on March 13.
Combining education on breast cancer and heart disease, attendees learned important warning signs and symptoms, and preventative ways to stay fit and healthy. While the community enjoyed a healthy lunch, courtesy of St. Francis Medical Center, they learned about the importance of mammograms, family history and self-exams. Peg Nucero, RN, MSN, APRN, BC spoke on breast cancer and shared with the audience that breast cancer is the most common cancer among woman aside from skin cancers.
Robert Poston, M.D., the Chief of Cardiovascular Surgery at St. Francis Medical Center and nationally renowned cardiac surgeon was scheduled to speak to the audience. Dr. Poston is one of only a handful of cardiac surgeons in the nation specialized in robot-assisted minimally invasive coronary bypass surgery. As luck would have it, however, Dr. Poston was unable to speak because he was tied up in surgery. Dr. Poston is scheduled to speak on June 16 at the Trenton Country Club as part of a series of Breakfast Forums sponsored by the Mid Jersey Chamber of Commerce.
The luncheon also featured a spring fashion show with clothing from Alicja’s Boutique located at 354 Route 33 in Hamilton.
In addition to many community members, healthcare students, and staff of St. Francis Medical Center, special guests such as Freeholders Pat Colavita, and Ann Cannon, Mercer County Clerk Paula Sollami Covello and Deputy Clerk, Walker Worthy, and Amy McKenna, Vice President of the Mid-Jersey Chamber of Commerce attended the event.
