Pennington Dance plans to celebrate its 35th year teaching dancers and serving the community with a year-end performance on Sunday, June 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will take place at the Hopewell Valley Central High School Performing Arts Center located at 259 Pennington Titusville Road in Pennington.
The family-oriented program will feature Pennington Dance students, alumni and faculty. Registrations for Pennington Dance’s July Summer World Dance Camp and Mini-Dance Intensives and for the 36th Pennington Dance school year beginning September 2015 are currently being accepted.
Pennington Dance opened in 1980 at the Pennington Presbyterian Church, operating with only one teacher and offering ballet and jazz classes three days a week. The space included bulky portable barres made of plumbing piping and a carpeted floor over a concrete surface. Today the school occupies two fully equipped dance studios in Pennington at the Cyrus Lodge on Burd Street and Pennington Presbyterian Church on Main Street, as well as a Pilates studio on Bear Tavern Road in Titusville.
Founder of Pennington Dance Nancy Warner has provided numerous workshops for the Hopewell Valley Regional School District over the years including a variety of dance/movement classes in the elementary schools and high school; Pilates classes in the Phys Ed programs; and National Dance Education curriculum training for in-service workshops for HVRSD music/performing arts faculty. (Ms. Warner trained with NDI founder Jacques D’Amboise and taught with the NDI affiliate, the Trenton Education Dance Institute for many years.) Ms. Warner also choreographed several HVCHS musical theatre productions – as a teen attending the school – and later as an adult professional.
The Pennington Dance Company regularly performs for the benefit of various organizations including Eden Dreams Fundraisers, the Philadelphia Thanksgiving Parade, assisted living nursing homes, senior centers, community events, such as the Trenton Thunder pre-game shows, Lambertville Shad Festival, Pennington Business and Professional Association’s Holiday Walk and Pennington Day. The company has performed at every Pennington Day event since its inception in 1980. All honorium received are donated to the Philadelphia Children’s Hospital.
Since Warner founded Pennington Dance, a portion of profits annually have been donated to feed the hungry and serve the needy. Whenever a family participates in Pennington Dance classes, they also contribute to global sharing. Pennington Dance funds have supported the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen and Home Front locally, Bread for the World and America’s Second Harvest nationally and The Hunger Project International worldwide. All proceeds from the school’s Original Broadway Repertoire workshop this spring were donated to the Himalayan Institute’s mobile health clinic project in Cameroon, West Africa.
Pennington Dance offers full year programs for ages 3 ½ to adult in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, pre-school dance, Pilates mat and Pilates apparatus classes, as well as workshops in original Broadway repertoire, musical theatre production and contemporary dance.
