Although nutritional food programs may benefit some local students during the school year, for those students, summer break does not just mean a break from classes and homework. It also means a break from the nutritional food programs that the children rely upon.
Thanks to a partnership between Hamilton Township, the CYO of Mercer County, which operates Hamilton’s Bromley Neighborhood Civic Center, and Mercer Street Friends, another non-profit that coordinates a local food bank, township children between the ages of 5 and 14 can continue to enjoy nutritional lunches throughout the summer.
A U.S. Department of Agriculture grant will allow the free summer lunch program to start in late June and continue through the middle of August. The program will provide local children with nutritional lunches at the Bromley Neighborhood Civic Center.
On sunny summer days, children who are registered for the program will be able to enjoy lunch at the center’s picnic tables, which surrounds a brand new playground set that officials recently installed. During inclement weather, lunch will be served inside the center.
Hamilton parents can register their children for the program by June 19 by contacting the Bromley Neighborhood Civic Center at (609) 587 8100, info@cyobromley.org or visiting the center, located at 1801 East State Street in Hamilton. Applications are also available on the Bromley Neighborhood Civic Center’s website cyobromley.org.
Because this program is available to solely children of Hamilton Township, parents must provide proof of residency identification.
