First — thank you neighbor John Hinsdale for making the effort to share the machinations of the West Windsor Council and its leader (The News, November 20). It was truly something to behold. I felt I was one of the “Districts” facing off “Panem.” And I also appreciated you posting the link to the entire meeting. It was quite amusing to see the degree of attention the leaves issue received.
Second — I feel sorry for both Mr. Maher and especially the council. For Mr. Maher, he is a bully. He bullies those with whom he disagrees — the mayor and, it appears, the council into a sad silence. I will never forget his snarled response of “Bring it on!” after I asked whether my fellow Jefferson Park residents could join me at a future meeting.
Third — for any candidate looking for a volunteer, I would be pleased to provide you support (e.g., stuff mailboxes, remind voters of his crass ways) should Mr. Maher decide to run in the future.
Fourth — Mr. Maher, I was brought up to respect other’s opinions even if they differ from my own, to de-escalate when an argument gets heated (though why my concern about leaf pick-up caused such a reaction still escapes me), and to believe our elected officials are there to serve. I guess Mr. Maher does not share these tenets.
Fifth — after I left, I understand Mr. Maher expressed I would dump my leaves in front of his yard. He obviously does not know me and the respect I have for my neighbors and the Township of West Windsor in which I have lived for 22 plus years.
But alas, such an experience will not stop me from addressing the council in the future should the need arise. Though now that I understand the rules of the game, I will be better prepared. But I will still maintain my approach of courtesy and respect and will never be bullied.
