The Trenton Elks Lodge #105 has been honored with an $8,000 grant award from the Elks National Foundation, Inc (ENF) for the Elks Age-Out Initiative.
The goal is to provide guidance to children as they age-out of the foster care program by helping them find a stable path toward individual growth and success. Using volunteer mentors, the Elks plan to make guidance available and help age-outs find direction and stability in their lives.
In the coming months, the Elks are planning a series of informational lectures to be presented throughout Mercer County to attract both potential volunteers and foster children to the program. The community program pairs volunteer mentors with foster children and is set to debut in March 2016.
The grant is part of the national Impact Grants program which provides money to local lodges to fund programs with a positive impact on their respective communities. According to Colleen Muszynski, representative of the Elks National Foundation, the Trenton Elks grant is one of 63 local Impact Grants totaling $500,000 currently being awarded for 2016.
