Mercer County Community College students and community members have the opportunity to combine the thrill of traveling with an academically enriched itinerary.
MCCC faculty are set to lead six Study Tours to countries around the globe in the spring. Destinations include Belize, China, Cuba, Italy, France and Poland.
Information sessions for 2015 Study Tours are scheduled for Sept. 23, Oct. 28, Nov. 25 and Dec. 9, 12 to 1 p.m., in room CM108 of the Communications Building on MCCC’s West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.
Each of the tours is associated with an MCCC course; travelers may be current Mercer students or enroll only for the single travel-related course.
Students enrolled in “Sociology and the History of Latin America” plan to spend a week in Cuba March 14 to 21.
The “Anatomy, Health Professions, Radiology and Biology” class is set to travel to Italy March 13 to 20 to focus on the Italian health care system and the country’s contributions to modern medicine.
As part of “Ecology, Archaeology, Sustainability and Culture,” students plan to journey to Belize May 15 to 22.
Students in “Business and Chinese Culture” are set to travel to China May 18 to 26.
Those enrolled in “The Holocaust” plan to travel to Poland May 22 to 31.
The final tour is to Paris from May 30 to June 14 for “French Immersion.”
According to MCCC director of Global Education Andrea Lynch, each trip is preceded by a discipline-specific course where faculty members teach course content that prepares students for what they will see and experience abroad. During trips abroad, a local tour guide takes student to “sites of economic, cultural and historical significance.”
“Instead of skimming the surface, these travelers come home with a deeper understanding of the course subject matter and a greater knowledge and respect for another culture,” Lynch said in a statement.
Lynch notes that the Study Tour courses conclude with a post-trip wrap-up session.
