The Princeton Battlefield Society is set to host a celebration for New Jersey’s 350th anniversary.
Princeton Battlefield Celebrates NJ’s 350th Anniversary is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sept.27 at Princeton Battlefield State Park.
According to Kip Cherry, first vice president of the Princeton Battlefield Society, the public is invited to learn about how New Jersey was named in 1664 and find out why the Battle of Princeton was a crucial turning point in the American Revolution in 1777.
To honor of the 350th Anniversary of New Jersey, the Princeton Battlefield Society will be offering artillery demonstrations; musket drilling for kids; a National Marine Corps Museum Display; ice cream making and tasting; music; the return of General George Washington played by Sam Davis; encampment demonstrations; the performance of Shakespeare’s Pericles; and more.
This event is part of the Princeton-Area Historic Sites’ NJ 350th Celebration. This community celebration involves a special collaboration between Morven House and Garden, the Historical Society of Princeton, Rockingham Association, the Drumthwacket Foundation, Princeton University Art Museum and the Princeton Battlefield Society. Each organization is offering unique activities from Sept. 26 to 28.
The celebration is set to begin with a lecture by author Tom Fleming called “The Quest for Justice in the American Revolution,” 7:30 p.m. Sept. 26. It ends with a lecture by author Arthur Lefkowitz called “Black Soldiers in the American Revolution,” 5 p.m. Sept. 28. Both are scheduled to take place at Princeton Public Library.
Princeton Battlefield State Park is located at 500 Mercer St., Princeton. Admission is free.
