For Kids
Princeton HealthCare System and Princeton Fitness & Wellness Center invite children in grades K through 8 to register for the sixth annual Kids Marathon. Participants have a goal of walking, running, or rolling a total 25 miles in the several weeks leading up to a 1.2-mile Fun Run that will be held Sunday, October 12, at High School South. Children receive incentives for completing various milestones of 5, 10, 13.1, 20, and 25 miles.
Children who do not complete a full 25 miles prior to October 12 are welcome to participate in the Fun Run. New participants may register solely for the Fun Run. All children who participate will receive a T-shirt and a medal. The October 12 event features kids’ crafts, local vendors, and activities for the whole family. Registration and parental permission are required. Registration is $25 for the full marathon and $20 for the Fun Run alone.

Call for Art
West Windsor Arts Council call for artists and artisans for “Off the Wall: An Affordable Art Exhibit” (Monday, November 10, to Saturday, January 3), and a one-day “Artisan Market” on Saturday, December 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Two-dimensional artwork in a variety of themes and media may be offered at prices not exceeding $300 for exhibit. Artwork may be literally taken off the wall at the time of purchase and will also be sold at the artisan market. Artwork must be brought to the WWAC Gallery for jury review on Saturday, November 8, from 9 to 11 a.m.
Artisans who sell innovative handcrafted pieces of jewelry, ceramics, fiber art, and more are sought for the market event on December 6. Auditions
Kelsey Theater has auditions for “’Twas The Night Before Christmas” on Sunday and Monday, October 19 and 20, for ages 7 and up. Roles include Clement Moore’s daughters, townspeople, narrators, and dancers. The roles of Clement Moore, Eliza Moore, Mr. Kringle, and Diana Mouse have been cast.

Jewish Family & Children’s Service is accepting applications for a 300-hour Americorps volunteer for the 2014-2015 school year. Stipend provided. Eligibility requirements include a senior high school or college student, college graduate, U.S. citizen, and a strong desire to make a difference in the area of hunger and vulnerable populations. Kidsbridge Tolerance Museum is seeking adult volunteers to help visiting elementary and middle school students learn about diversity appreciation, community service, and bullying prevention. Volunteers work with small groups of students. No experience is necessary.

Seeking Runners
Friendship Circle seeks runners for Team Friendship’s participation in Lifetime Marathon in Miami to benefit the special needs community. Participants who join commit to raise money to benefit children with special needs. Each participant is flown to Miami for the weekend and Team Friendship arranges all of their accommodations. Ice Skating Begins
Mercer County’s Public Ice Skating Center opens Saturday, November 8. Located at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, it is open to the public seven days a week during the operating season, which runs from November 8 to the middle of March. The center has a snack bar, a fireplace, lounge area, dining tables, vending machines, skate rentals, a skate sharpening service, and lockers. Public skating sessions, birthday parties, ice time for hockey, group rates, and private party rentals are available.
Registration for group skating lessons will be held on Saturday and Sunday, November 1 and 2, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the center. Ticket prices are $8; skate rental is $3. Visit www.mercercountyparks.org or call 609-371-1669.
French-English Book Club
The Alliance Francaise and the Association Francophone will be starting a French/English book club as a way for members of the two organizations to learn more about their respective cultures.
The club will meet every month or every two months depending on participants’ interest. It will feature a discussion in French on a French-language book one month and a discussion in English on an English-language book the following month. Membership in one of the organizations is required.
The first meeting will be held in Princeton on Thursday, October 23, at 7:30 p.m. and will feature a discussion in French on the novel, “Un Aller Simple” by Didier van Cauwelaert. E-mail Andrea Stine at andreastine@mac.com.
One Act Plays
Lawrence Library seeks plays for staged readings of one-act plays in April. Playwrights who are high school age or older and reside or work in the Delaware Valley are asked to submit their works of a staged reading, approximately 10-minutes in length for up to five actors.
