Rider University will deliver performances of Molière’s comic satire A Doctor in Spite of Himself from Oct. 29 through Nov. 2. at the Bart Luedeke Center Theater.
Adapted by Steven Epp and Christopher Bayes, the traditional story of a girl feigning illness to escape an undesirable marriage erupts into hilarity when a marriage squabble turns a simple-minded stiff into a doctor who can’t help but play along.
Director Carter gill is a New York-based performer who studied acting at the Yale School of Drama. In New York, Mr. Gill directed Rosa Laborde’s United States premiere of Marine Life and performed Off-Broadway at Lincoln Center, Soho Rep, Studio42 and The Flea Theatre. Regionally, he has performed with The Yale Summer Cabaret, Yale Repertory Theatre, Colorado Shakespeare Festival and Berkshire Theatre Festival. He now teaches in New York and is on the faculty at Pace University and New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
A preview performance will take place on Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m., and performances will take place Oct. 30 at 7:30 p.m.; Oct. 31 at 7:30 p.m.; Nov. 1 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. The production will be performed by Rider University students.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. They can be purchased at the door, through the box office at 896-7775 or online at rider.edu/arts. General admission preview tickets are $9 and are only available at the door.
