Chapin School was ranked first in the state and 11th nationwide in the Green Cup Recycle Challenge.
The four-week challenge requires competing schools to earn recycling and waste bin compliance points based on their success in disposing of waste in proper containers. This is the first time the school participated in the challenge.
Chapin School had a high score of 97 percent in bin compliance in the final week and received the full 10 bonus points for other sustainability practices.

Headmaster Richard Johnson hopes funds donated to the school’s Capital Campaign, will help with construction of new, LEED silver standard facilities.
The school broke ground on a 13,000-square-foot addition to its Lower School on Nov. 4. The $5 million project includes classrooms for grades one and two, as well as a library and a dedicated science room as well as a large commons area.
