The rivalry between the North and South hockey teams has taken on a significance beyond hockey. For each of the past five years the crosstown rivals have faced off in the David Bachner Memorial Game. The annual event honors the legacy of David Bachner, a star baseball player and 2009 graduate of High School North who died suddenly of a heart attack just weeks before he was set to begin college at Seton Hall. Proceeds from the game help allow underprivileged children to play baseball, hockey, and basketball.
