#b#Presidential Scholars#/b#

Sixteen students in West Windsor-Plainsboro schools were selected as candidates for the Presidential Scholars program. The program was established in 1964 to recognize and honor some of the nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors. In 1979, the program was expanded to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional scholarship and talent in the visual, creative, and performing arts.

Students are selected on the basis of their accomplishments in many areas including academic and artistic success, leadership, and involvement in school and the community.

The 16 students selected are, from High School South: Michael J. Byrnes, Celena J. Chen, Isidora Filipovic, Mohammed K. Jaffer, Sally Jiao, Jeffrey Kuan, Pranay Nadella, Rohan R. Patlolla, Varsha Prem, Arnav Sood, and David W. Yin.

And from High School North: Brian K. Chan, Aayush Sharma, Sagar Tikoo, Pratyush Trivedi, and Matthew S. Zang.

Rebecca McLelland-Crawley, WW-P’s science supervisor, presented at the third annual Digital Learning Day in Washington, D.C. on February 5. She highlighted the sense of urgency for infusing digital technologies into regular classroom practice and showcase the WW-P “STEAM” program in which WW-P high school environmental science students teach first grade students how to investigate the local habitats and ponds through rovers built by the students. More than 100 teacher-leaders from across the United States will be in attendance.

College of New Jersey: Students from West Windsor on the dean’s list include seniors Sarah Mclaughlin, a graphic design major; Caroline Barone, a history secondary education major; and Allison Pungello, an elementary education major; juniors Diana Befi, a music education major; Justin Parag, a finance major; Teresa Akkara, an English major; Clifford Weekes, a psychology major; Jaedi Gambatese, an elementary education major; Selena Seto, a health and exercise science major; Abdul Kazi, a biology major; and Julie Bradley, a mathematics secondary education major;

Also sophomores Kaitlyn Grant, an early childhood major; Hayley Stocker, an early childhood major; and Rachel Oertel, a special education major. And freshmen Joanna Ju, a music education major; Jessica Oertel, a special education and STEM major; Sabhya Gupta, a biology major; and David Weiss, a physics major.

Students from Plainsboro on the dean’s list include seniors Alana Jorgensen, a psychology major; Saikrishnaraya Doppalapudi, a biomedical engineering major in a seven-year program; Lahari Vudayagiri, a biology major; and Renuka Reddy, a biology major in a seven-year pre-med program. And juniors Andrew Chan, a criminology major; Kendal Borup, an international studies major; Anne Carenina Balicusto, a psychology major; Rebecca Alabastro, a nursing major; Jacqueline Holder, a nursing major.

Also sophomores David Miller, an accountancy major; Yae Na Yoon, an accountancy major; Laurence Hochman, an interdisciplinary business major; and Alyssa Avino, an early childhood major. And freshman Alexandra Kadar, a visual arts major.

Coastal Carolina University: West Windsor students on the dean’s list include Daniel Riff, Jacob Riff, and Amber Urso.

Chestnut Hill College: Tiffany Urena, a sophomore communications major from Plainsboro, is on the dean’s list.

Cornell University: Students on the dean’s list from West Windsor include Kiran Vaidya, Caroline Kellner, Paul Balestrieri, and Ethan Julius; and Frederick Huang of Plainsboro.

Elizabethtown College: Meghan Vogt, an early childhood education major from West Windsor, is on the dean’s list.

Georgia Institute of Technology: Vijayeetha Ramesh of Plainsboro is on the dean’s list.

University of Hartford: Andrew Steinberg of Plainsboro is on the dean’s list.

Hofstra University: Hannah Richman of Plainsboro is on the dean’s list. She is a junior majoring in public relations.

Ithaca College: West Windsor students on the dean’s list include Emily Meshumar, Jessica Miller, and Helene Strange.

Kutztown University of Pennsylvania: Shari Nobile of Plainsboro is on the dean’s list.

McDaniel College: Jennifer Litzinger of West Windsor is on the dean’s list.

James Madison University: Students on the dean’s list include Plainsboro residents Jenna Greenstein, a senior majoring in interdiscliplinary liberal studies; Christiana McGuigan, a junior majoring in psychology; Amy Slothower, a junior majoring in theater and dance; and Nicole Seipp of West Windsor, a senior majoring in political science.

Gregory Weisbecker of Plainsboro is the president’s list. He is a junior majoring in kinesiology.

Pratt Institute: Students on the dean’s list include Jessica Schultz and Veronika Avloshenko of Plainsboro and Michaela Calotta of West Windsor.

Quinnipiac University: West Windsor students on the dean’s list include Steven McSpiritt and Jacqueline Stimmel.

Rowan University: West Windsor students on the dean’s list include Michael P. Patrick Brienza, accounting major; Emily A. Anne Carnevale, elementary education major; Hannah S. Sophia Magnusson, communication studies major; Marisa Pollack, management major; Linda T. Teresa Gosselin, advertising major; Kyle G. Garrett Lyon, public relations major.

Plainsboro students on the dean’s list include Jaclyn M. Marie Wemple, elementary education major; and Mark A. Alexander Van Zevenbergen; radio/television/film major.

Washington and Lee University: Ethan Harel of Plainsboro is on the honor roll. He is a member of the class of 2015.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute: Sarah Brooks of West Windsor is on the dean’s list. She is a senior majoring in electrical and computer engineering.
