One of the items discussed at the West Windsor council meeting on February 18 was the memorial that will be placed at the site of the former Grover Farmstead. According to Pat Ward, the director of community development, the concept features a flagpole with a solar-powered light so that the flag would never be in darkness. It would also include a plaque with information about Thomas Grover, the Vietnam War veteran and casualty for whom Thomas Grover Middle School is named.
The township also planned to put up a sign reading“Grover Farm,” similar to one that had previously been in place there.
Council members said they had envisioned the memorial plaque as being somewhat larger and more visible, such as having the plaque placed on a large rock.
Said Ward: “Our original cost estimate for the project was between $1,500 and $2,500; now the cost will be higher because of the change to the plaque’s size and design. We may be able to do fundraising, possibly through the Friends of West Windsor Open Space, so that they can be a repository for funds as we collect them. In addition, the Lion’s Club and the VFW may contribute to the memorial as well.”
