The Princeton Police have released a report about a serious bus accident that occurred today at 2:48 p.m. on Route 206.
According to police, a 2011 BMW 328I was traveling north on 206 just north of Hutchinson Drive when it struck the left front bumper of a Rick Bus Co. bus, traveling south, with its front end. Subsequent to the impact, the bus flipped over onto its right side, and the BMW spun around, sustaining heavy front end damage. The bus also sustained heavy damage to its left front side.
The bus driver, Veronica McKinney, 44, of Trenton, was reported alert and conscious upon arrival of emergency personnel. She was transported to University Medical Center at Plainsboro for medical care. Her injuries were non-life threatening.
The bus had two passengers: a 16-year-old student and a teacher’s aide, Geneva Smith, 71. Both were reported alert and conscious upon arrival of emergency personnel. They were transported to University Medical Center at Plainboro by ambulance. Their injuries were not life threatening.
The driver of the BMW, Justin Thomas, 26, of Morris Plains, walked away from the BMW, and was alert and conscious upon arrival of emergency personnel. He was transported by ambulance to Capital Health Systems at Fuld for medical care. His injuries were not life threatening.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Serious Collision Unit is assisting the Princeton Police Department with the investigation. No summonses have been issued to date and the investigation is continuing.
Route 206 was closed to traffic between Lovers Lane and Province Line Road during the investigation.
Although early eyewitness reports suggested that someone had been trapped in the vehicle, Princeton Police say no one was extricated from the vehicles.
