On Oct. 28, second graders at Slackwood Elementary School time-traveled to 18th century Lawrence Township.
Accompanied by teachers Mrs. Sharon Civil, Mrs. Kathy Bierman and Mrs. Amy Valentino, students walked to the Anderson-Capner House, where they were invited by owners Kathlinda and Gary Saretzky. Constructed in 1764, the House is listed оn the National Register оf Historic Places.
Outside the house, two traditionally-dressed colonial women were working in the garden. They told the students about the history of the Lenni-Lenape Native Americans as well as the artifacts that were found on the property.
Inside the Anderson-Capner House, students learned about how men, women and children lived and worked during colonial times. Students asked questions about the different toys and school supplies of the era.
