Julian Grant
The Princeton Symphony Orchestra is set to present Behind the Music with local composer Julian Grant on March 28 at 4:30 p.m.
Grant will discuss the influence of one of his earlier pieces upon the creation of his latest orchestral work Dances in the Dark. The new work imagines dancing nocturnal spirits and features the rhythms of various ballroom dance forms including a waltz, rumba and congo.
Grant wrote the piece at the request of his friend Rossen Milanov, PSO Music Director, to reflect PSO’s overall season theme of nights and dreams. Milanov will host PSO Behind the Music and offer his own insights into preparing Grant’s work for live performance.
Grant is a composer who specializes in writing opera and orchestral works. In 2012, his opera dance piece Hot House premiered on the main stage at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. He has written many chamber, instrumental, orchestral and vocal works.
Dances in the Dark will premiere at the March 30 PSO Classical Series Concert Nights and Dreams at 4 p.m. at Richardson Auditorium located at 68 Nassau Street, Princeton.
PSO Behind the Music is free and open to the public.
The event will be held at the Arts Council of Princeton located at 102 Witherspoon Street, Princeton.
