Students at Mercer County Technical Schools’ Health Science Academy are participating in the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey’s fourth annual U Got Brains Champion Schools Program — a contest challenging 63 New Jersey high schools to develop fun and interactive campaigns aimed at educating teens about the importance of safe driving.
Each school received a $1,000 stipend from the Brain Injury Alliance of New Jersey which is being used to implement their campaign.
The students are hosting a series of events during Safe Driving Week (March 31 – April 4) at their school.
Using the phrase SAVEit4L8R, the students hope to drive home the message about the staggering number of incidents that occur when people are distracted by sending or reading text messages while driving. The funds provided by BIANJ will cover costs associated with giveaways like promotional magnets and t-shirts to promote Safe Driving Week. On April 1, high school students and staff, in collaboration with Allstate Insurance, took a pledge and added their thumbprint to a banner to promote safe driving.
In June, two of the 63 competing high schools will be awarded the grand prize of a driving simulator donated by New Jersey Manufactures Insurance Company. Additional sponsors of the program include New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, The Allstate Foundation and DriveSafer.
