Meryl Streep to perform at Princeton University

Princeton University Concerts’ next season is set to open with a performance featuring actor Meryl Streep.

The 2014-2015 season also includes 12 performers set to make their PUC debuts, several concerts by “Musical Dream Teams” and the return of the Meet the Music series for kids.

The season is scheduled to kick-off Sept. 19 when Academy Award Winning actor Meryl Streep teams up with Takács String Quartet. Streep is set to read from Philip Roth’s novella Everyman while the quartet plays short works by Arvo Pärt, Philip Glass and Schubert.

Next, PUC’s Classical Series begins with a performance by Emerson String Quartet set for 8 p.m. Oct. 2. The quartet plans to play works by Haydn, Beethoven and Ravel.

PUC is set to host a special event featuring Chris Thile on mandolin and Grammy-winning bassist Edgar Meyer on 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9.

Richardson Chamber Players are scheduled to play their first concert of the season 3 p.m. Oct. 19. The concert, titled Divine Winds, features mixed chamber works by Mozart, Poulenc and Giuliani.

Ébène String Quartet is set to present a Classical Series concert 8 p.m. Nov. 6. The concert features works by Haydn, Schumann and a mix of jazz standards, including a take on Bruce Springsteen’s Streets of Philadelphia.

PUC’s first Meet the Music family concert is scheduled for 1 p.m. Nov. 8. The concert is called “The Magical World of Maurice Ravel” and features musicians from the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

Richardson Chamber Players are set to present Russian Treasures 3 p.m. Nov. 23. The cocent features mixed chamber works by Rachmaninoff, Medtner and Stravinsky.

The Classical Series is set to return in 2015 with a concert featuring violinist Isabelle Faust and pianist Alexander Melnikov. The concert features work by Dvorak, Enescu, Tchaikovsky and Franck.

Chicago Symphony Winds is set to present an all-Mozart program 8 p.m. Feb. 12, 2015. A late-night chamber jam, during which amateur musicians play along with the CSO professionals to sight read a symphony, is set to follow the concert.

Pianist Marc-André Hamelin is scheduled to perform a Classical Series concert 8 p.m. Feb. 26, 2015. He plans to play works by Mozart, Hamelin, Debussy and Schubert.

The second Meet the Music concert of the season is scheduled for 1 p.m. March 21, 2015. The concert is titled “Inspector Pulse Pops A String” and features works by Mozart, Beethoven, Bartók and more.

“Musical Dream Team” violinist Lisa Batiashvili and pianist Paul Lewis are set to present a Classical Series concert 8 p.m. March 26, 2015. Their program features works by Schubert, Bach and Beethoven.

Richardson Chamber Players are scheduled to present Pierrot’s Stage 3 p.m. March 29, 2015. The concert includes works by Schoenberg and Biber.

The Classical Series is set to continue with the Australian Chamber Orchestra with guest artist Martin Fróst on clarinet 4 p.m. April 16, 2015. The program features works by Haydn, Copland, Mozart and the Princeton premiere of Jonny Greenwood’s Water.

The season is set to conclude with countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo and pianist Bryan Wagorn 8 p.m. April 30, 2015. They are set to present songs by Duparc, Britten, Liszt, Mozart, Handel and Gershwin.

PUC performances take place at Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall on the university’s campus.

PUC subscriptions are now on sale.

Tickets to special events featuring Meryl Streep and Takács String Quartet and Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer are scheduled to go on sale Aug. 1.

Single concert tickets are scheduled to go on sale Sept. 2.
