Vote-by-Mail applications are available for the May 13 election in the City of Trenton now and may be requested by mail until May 6.
Voters may also complete vote-by-mail ballots by visiting the County Clerk’s Election Office at 209 South Broad St. in the Courthouse Annex, Trenton, and obtaining a ballot there, until May 12 at 3 p.m.
In New Jersey, any registered voter can vote by mail for any reason. Voters do not have to be sick, working or out of town to request a ballot.
Voter who previously uses mail-in ballots are not on the “permanent” vote by mail list and that does not automatically allow them to receive a vote by mail ballot for the May 13 election. The permanent list only makes voters eligible to receive ballots for the general elections held every November.
A voter will only receive a vote by mail ballot if he or she has either filed an application for the May 13 election or filed this year for all ballots in the current “calendar year.”
The deadline to mail-in applications for the Trenton City election is May 6.
In the same vein, if voters wish to vote in the primary election on June 3 , a vote-by-mail application would need to be filed with the County Clerk’s Office. The deadline for the primary election mail-in ballots is May 27.
A registered voter may apply for a ballot by completing and mailing a vote-by-mail application. After the mail-in deadline, a voter may apply for a ballot, in person, at the Mercer County Clerk’s Office the day before the election until 3 p.m.

Vote-by-mail applications also are available online in English and Spanish at mercercounty.org/countyclerk. The State Division of Elections also offers vote-by-mail ballots in Indian and Chinese languages online at njelections.org.
