Several Mercer County residents were named Rowan University Scholar athletes.
The university honored 225 student-athletes at its annual Student-Athlete Day April 11.
Rowan recognized individuals who achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. This year, 109 student-athletes accumulated a GPA of 3.4 or higher and 116 had a GPA between 3.0 and 3.39.
The Profs also inducted 32 student-athletes into the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society.
Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes student-athletes from all divisions who maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.40 or higher throughout their junior and senior years. The Society emphasizes the values associated with participation in intercollegiate athletics including good citizenship, moral character and friendship among the high academic achievers in college athletics.
Junior soccer player Victoria Camera of Hamilton was named a Rowan Scholar-Athlete and was inducted to Chi Alpha Sigma. She is studying health promotion and fitness.
Junior cross country and track runner Jon Sewnig of Yardville also earned both distinctions. He is studying mechanical engineering.
Scholar-Athlete honorees also include freshman cross county and track runner Zach Helm, junior softball player Amanda Toomer, junior soccer player (Hamilton Township), sophomore cross country and track runner Lisa Leszcynski (Trenton).
