Hamilton Township named Tree City USA

The Arbor Day Foundation named Hamilton Township a Tree City USA for the eighth time.

The township earned the national recognition for its commitment to effective urban forest management.

The Arbor Day Foundation, a million member, non-profit conservation and education organization that seeks to inspire people to plant, nurture and celebrate trees, sponsors the Tree City USA program in partnership with the U.S Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.

Hamilton was recently informed of earning this honor for the 2013 calendar year through meeting a series of program requirements, which include having a township Shade Tree Commission, a tree-care ordinance and by investing at least $2 per capita in community forestry efforts.

According to the Arbor Day Foundation, improved storm water management, energy savings, and increased property values are among the benefits enjoyed by Tree City USA communities.
