John Witherspoon Middle School’s Do Something Club organized the third annual Service Saturday on April 26.
More than 130 students and staff participated in several community service projects.
Volunteers purchased and assembled 120 bagged lunches for Crisis Ministry and 40 Mother’s Day packages filled with makeup, toiletries and handmade bracelets of hope for the women of HomeFront.
They also made children’s activity kits for Princeton Nursery School.
Students made two peace poles that symbolize a united world and more than 40 art frames with student-designed art for area organizations.
Volunteers also spent time with Princeton Care residents, beautified the grounds around their school and filmed a movie to capture the day.
JWMS parents and Naked Pizza provided a pizza lunch with refreshments and dessert.
Materials and items that were needed were purchased using funds raised through the Do Something Club’s monthly pretzel sales.
Prior to Service Saturday, students prepared for state testing and three spring concerts.
“Our students worked so hard all week, several performed in one or more of our spring concerts; we have testing coming up this week, and none of these factors inhibited over 100 students from taking time out of their Saturday morning to come and help out,” JWMS principal Jason Burr said in a statement.
JWMS Do Something Club aims to make a difference in the community and the school. Their service efforts enrich the lives of others locally and beyond.
