More than 260 runners of all ages—some donning their favorite superhero outfits—ran in the CASA Kids Superhero 5K and Family Fun Run at the Princeton Pike Corporate Center in Lawrenceville April 26.
Runners raised more than $58,000 to benefit Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children of Mercer and Burlington counties.
CASA of Mercer and Burlington executive director Lori Morris said it was the seventh and largest race for the organization.
Princeton resident Richard Chapman, 26, finished first with a time of 18 minutes and nine seconds. Elizabeth Litten, 49, of Moorestown was the first female finisher.
In the teams category, Mathematica took first place, with HDR in second and Stark and Stark, LLC in third.
Stark and Stark proved for the second year in a row to be the fastest firm, winning the “race within a race” Lawyer’s Challenge. The firm was closely followed by Szaferman Lakind, Capehart Scatchard and Fox Rothschild.
This year’s honorary chair was Dan Wilkinson, Chief Commercial Officer of 1WorldSync, the industry leader in global product management and data pool solutions. The company, with an office at Princeton Pike Corporate Center, was a significant sponsor of the Superhero 5K. Wilkinson, a former foster parent, is a passionate supporter of the cause of helping children in the foster care system.
The mission of CASA is to recruit, screen, and train volunteers to speak up in family court for the best interests of children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. CASA’s 166 volunteers served 269 children in Mercer and Burlington counties this past year, but there are nearly 800 more children in out-of-home placement who still need a CASA volunteer.
