Terra Learning Kitchen installed a teaching garden to to round out its array of offerings to teach the community about healthy living and eating.
A venture between YMCA, YWCA, the Suppers program and the Terra Momo Group, the Terra Learning Kitchen has created a unique setting in which members of the Ys and the community at large can learn about healthy cooking and nutrition in a variety of creative ways, and have access to delicious, prepared healthy foods at an affordable price.
The kitchen features nutritious items that are prepared on site with minimal processing and the menu includes gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free and heart-healthy options.
Volunteers from NRG dug new beds and planted vegetables at Princeton YMCA-YWCA as part of its annual Global Giving Day on May 13.
General manager Tiffany Baldino said the garden will help expand the group’s educational offerings.
“The garden will provide an outdoor learning area available for TLK classes, YMCA and YWCA classes, and especially the preschoolers and their teachers. The children will be welcome and encouraged to visit the garden, as well as help with planting and picking of the vegetables. This summer, TLK will also be glad to conduct garden workshops for the summer day camp programs,” Baldino said in a statement.
The garden also features picnic tables so visitors can share a healthy meal together.
Terra Learning Kitchen is dedicated to educating the public about wholesome food and cooking, and how to make the healthy food and the delicious food both the same thing. It offers a variety of cooking classes as well as healthy grab n’ go lunches and take-out dinners. Part of the proceeds are dedicated to scholarships for children from less fortunate families.
TLK is located inside the Princeton YMCA-YWCA. Its hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
