Princeton Public Library is set to celebrating the 50th anniversary of British children’s author Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The celebration features a reading “filibuster” and screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory July 7.
Starting at 10 a.m., the timeless classic about five lucky children who win the chance to tour a mysterious chocolate factory will be read in its entirely. Library visitors are invited to read a portion of the book during the reading filibuster, set to take place in the library’s main lobby over approximately five hours.
A screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the 1971 musical adapted from the book, is scheduled for 4 p.m. The film stars Gene Wilder as the title character and tells the story of Charlie Bucket, a boy of good character; and the four devious, self-serving children who tour the chocolate factory with him. The film runs one hour and 40 minutes.
Dahl’s other books include James and the Giant Peach, Matilda and Danny, Champion of the World.
