Princeton Senior Resource Center is set to host Beat the Heat Movie Series for Seniors.
The series features free movies, popcorn and air conditioning. Movie screenings are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Suzanne Patterson Building, 45 Stockton St., Princeton.
Beat the Heat is set to kick-off with Book Thief July 9. The film takes place during World War II in Germany, where young Liesel finds solace by stealing books and sharing them with others. In the basement of her home, a Jewish refugee is being sheltered by her adoptive parents.
Philomena is scheduled for July 16. The Oscar-nominated film features Steve Coogan as a world-weary political journalist who picks up the story of a woman’s search for her son, who was taken away from her decades ago after she became pregnant and was forced to live in a convent. Philomena stars Judi Dench.
The animated feature film Frozen is scheduled for July 23. In the film, fearless optimist Anna teams up with Kristoff in an epic journey, in a race to find her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom in eternal winter.
The Red Violin is scheduled for July 30. A perfect red-colored violin inspires passion, making its way through three centuries over several owners and countries, eventually ending up at an auction where it may find a new owner.
Waking Ned Devine is set for Aug. 6. When Ned Devine dies from shock after winning the lottery, two longtime friends discover the body and agree Ned would want them to benefit from his good luck. They embark upon an outrageous scheme to claim the money.
Nebraska is scheduled for Aug. 13. An aging, booze-addled father makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million-dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize. The film stars Bruce Dern, who won an Oscar for the role.
American Hustle is set for Aug. 29. In the Oscar nominated film, a con man named Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive partner Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for a wild FBI agent, Richie DiMaso, who pushes them into a world of New Jersey powerbrokers and mafia. American Hustle stars Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper and Amy Adams.
The series is scheduled to end with The Monuments Men Aug. 27. The film, starring George Clooney and Matt Damon, is based on a true story of an unlikely World War II platoon tasked to rescue art masterpieces from Nazi thieves and return them to their owners.
