Sgt. Michael Cifelli, the Princeton Police’s chief community policing officer, has retired after more than 20 years with the department.
“It has been a fantastic, rewarding career and I’m leaving with memories and friendships that will last a lifetime,” said Cifelli.” My immediate plans are to spend much needed time with my family.”
Cifelli was hired by the Montgomery Police Department in June 1988 and graduated from the Camden County Police Academy.
He served in the patrol division there until June 1993, when he was hired by the Princeton Township Police Department, following in the footsteps of his step-father, Sgt. Jerry Offredo.
Cifelli was promoted to corporal in 1998 and in April 2007 to Sergeant in the Patrol Division.
During this time, he was a field training officer, firearms instructor and head firearms instructor.
He is an instructor at Mercer County Police Academy and has served as president of PBA Local #130 and on the negotiations committee. He also served on many department committees such as the Honor Guard and Awards Program.
In 2011, Sgt. Cifelli was transferred to the Community Services Bureau and assigned the duties of the press officer, and later oversaw the department’s the Communications Bureau.
Sgt. Cifelli initiated the department’s Facebook page, Twitter account, Nixle program and two Tweet-a-Thons.
