The ONE Project, a faith and community coalition organized to address social needs through education and volunteerism, is set to host the NJ Hunger Project July 26.
The NJ Hunger Project is a collaboration with two other non-profit organizations, Feeding Children Everywhere and Mercer Street Friends Food Bank, with a goal to package 40,000 meals for hungry kids in Mercer County.
The ONE Project team has raised more than $14,000 in donations from over 25 local community sponsors and hundreds of individual donations. Those funds were used to purchase the ingredients for a lentil casserole meal created by nutritionists at Feeding Children Everywhere. This meal is nutritious, non-perishable and only costs 25 cents per meal.
On July 26, about 300 volunteers from different cultures and backgrounds will come together to package these meals at Robbinsville High School.
Once packaged, they will be delivered to Mercer Street Friends Food Bank in Ewing for distribution through the Send Hunger Packing program. This program is designed to target low-income children in the county who struggle to afford food when they are out of school. The kids will receive a backpack full of nutritious food, including the 40,000 lentil casserole meals, to help bridge the hunger gap in our community.
The NJ Hunger Project is designed to bring together local business, faith groups, and community partners under one roof in order to take the first step in solving one of our community’s most pressing needs.
