Mercer County Park Commission director Kevin Bannon is once again being honored for his achievements as a college basketball coach.
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference named Bannon a member of the 2014-2015 Basketball Hall of Fame Honor Roll class.
Bannon, who guided the Rider University’s men’s team to five conference championship games, two championships and two NCAA tournament appearances during his eight seasons as head basketball coach from 1989 to 1997, and Class of 1996 star athlete Jessica Beck are the school’s two honorees in this year’s MAAC induction class. They join one male and one female honoree from each of the conference’s 10 other institutions.
The honorees are set to be enshrined in “The MAAC Experience” exhibit at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., on Nov. 1.
Bannon also is a member of the Athletics Hall of Fame at Rider University, where he twice was named Northeast Conference Coach of the Year; and the Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame at The College of New Jersey, where he coached the men’s basketball team from 1982 to 1989, leading the Lions to the Division III national championship game in his final season. Bannon also coached the Rutgers University men’s basketball team from 1997-2001, guiding the Scarlet Knights to two National Invitation Tournament appearances.
