HomeFront is once again gearing up to make sure that more than 1,100 local children living at or below the poverty level are prepared for school.
The non-profit organization is kicking off its Back to School campaign by calling on residents, businesses, civic and church organizations to donate new clothes, shoes, backpacks and school supplies.
Sheila Addison, director of HomeFront’s Family Preservation Center for homeless woman and children, said the Back to School campaign provides essential items for a productive school year to families who cannot afford them.
“If it weren’t for this campaign, most of the parents of these children would not have the resources to afford to send their children to school feeling good about themselves. It’s very hard to make friends, or look teachers in the eye when you know you don’t look like the other kids.” Addison said in a statement.
In addition to collecting items like new clothes and supplies, HomeFront accepts cash donations, which are used for families to use toward school trips, class pictures and extra activities.
The deadline for item drop-off is scheduled for Aug. 20.
