The newly formed New Jersey Capital Philharmonic announced its first full season of concerts.
The season is made up of five events featuring an array of guest artists and an eclectic mix of repertoire. Programs are conducted by NJCPO’s music director Daniel Spalding.
The season is set to open with guest pianist Awadagin Pratt performing the Beethoven Concerto No. 4 Oct. 25. The program also includes Ron Nelson’s Savannah River Holiday and Symphony No. 5 by Dmitri Shostakovich.
Classical Christmas with Princeton Girlchoir and tenor Benjamin Bliss is scheduled for 3 p.m. Dec. 14. This program includes Rimsky-Korsakov’s Polonaise from Christmas Eve Suite, Franck’s Panis Angelicus, Adam’s Cantique de Noel, Schubert’s Ave Maria, Silvestri’s Suite from Polar Express and other Christmas classics.
NJCPO is set to continue one of the area’s most revered traditions with its annual New Year’s Eve concert. Some of this year’s light classics will include Jonathan Leshnoff’s Starburst, Enescu’s Romanian Rhapsody No. 1, Strauss’ Emperor Waltz and Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess.
The philharmonic is offering an evening of love songs with pop singer Maureen McGovern on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14. NJCPO will also perform several works including Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte and Debussy’s Clair de lune.
NJCPO’s finale is Espana!, scheduled for May 9. A tribute to the spirit of Spain, Flamenco dancer Liliana Ruiz is set to join the orchestra for George Antheil’s rarely performed Capital of the World. Also on the program is Chabrier’s Espana Rhapsody, Ravel’s Aborada del gracioso, and Manuel de Falla’s The Threee-Cornered Hat.
All performances are set to take place at Patriots Theater at Trenton War Memorial, 1 Memorial Drive, Trenton.
