That Robbinsville Little League once again has fielded championship-caliber All-Star teams this summer isn’t surprising.
After all, at least one team from RLL has won a District 12 title since 2005. In that span, RLL has won 26 District 12 titles, 17 state titles and, with the win this year, qualified for four World Series. What started with a win by the 2005 Washington Township Little League 10-year-old baseball All-Star team has evolved into an annual tradition, something to mark on the calendar.
In light of this era of dominance, it makes what the league has accomplished in 2014 all the more impressive. This summer, RLL won four of the five District 12 tournaments it fielded teams for—10-year-old baseball and softball, 11-year-old baseball and 12-year old softball. As a whole, RLL teams dropped just four of the 23 games they played.
The 10-year-old baseball team exemplified this dominance, defeating its opponents by 11 runs per game. In the same age group, the 10-year-old softball team cruised to a sectional title, winning by a combined 30-0.
Then there’s the most accomplished of all the RLL squads historically, the 12-year-old softball team. This year’s squad has lived up to that reputation, breezing through the District 12 tournament without allowing a run. The team advanced to the finals of the regional tournament in Bristol, Connecticut, with six straight wins.
The team qualified for the World Series and finished pool play Aug. 11 with a perfect 4-0 record. It advanced to the World Series semifinals as the top seed in its pool.
The semifinal game is scheduled to air 9 p.m. Aug. 12 on ESPN2. If Robbinsville wins, it will play Aug. 13 for the World Series title.
