A winter concert will be presented by Greater Princeton Youth Orchestra (GPYO) on Sunday, December 14, at the Performing Arts Center at Montgomery High School in Skillman. The Symphonic Orchestra and Concert Orchestra will present works by Tchaikovsky, Smetana, Richard Meyer, and Edward Elgar. The GPYO Choir will sing choral selections from a variety of time periods and cultures. Admission is free.
Musicians from West Windsor and Plainsboro all play the violin. They include Siddharth Balaji and Raymond Jin, both with the Concert Orchestra and students at Community Middle School; Louis Kang plays with the Symphonic Orchestra and is a student at High School South; Shray Tripathi is with the Concert Orchestra and is a student at Grover Middle school; and Elizabeth Hu is with the Concert Orchestra and is a student at Chapin School.

Youth Orchestra of Central Jersey will also present a concert on Sunday, December 14, at 3 p.m. at Mildred and Ernest E. Mayo Concert Hall, College of New Jersey. The small ensembles concert features the Saxophone Ensemble, Brass Ensembles, Percussion Ensemble, and Woodwind Choir. The Wind Ensemble, a larger group including many of the students involved in small ensembles, plays the concert’s finale.
Conductors include John Enz (since 1985) and Phillip Pugh (since 1988), who conduct the various orchestras; and Brian Woodward (since 2001), who conducts the Wind Ensemble and lower level Brass Ensemble. Woodward, a teacher at Community Middle School; Pugh, a teacher at Millstone River School; and Enz, a teacher at High School North, are West Windsor residents.
The next concert is on Sunday, February 1, at Princeton University’s Richardson Auditorium. The concert will feature the Saxophone Choir premiering a new work, plus the top level Symphony Orchestra.
