Featured work by gallery member John Clarke.
Gallery 14’s latest exhibit is set to open Jan. 9. Featured artists are John Clarke, displaying “Portraits of Cuba,” and Samuel M. Vovsi, displaying “Twos.”
Gallery member John Clarke is the founding partner of architectural firm Clarke Caton Hintz. Since his retirement, he has shifted his artistic talent onto photography. These images, taken in the streets and markets of Havana, Cuba, capture the rich colors and warm light of the island as well as the vibrant spirit of the local people.
Guest artist Samuel Vovsi lived most of his life in Latvia, until he immigrated to the U.S. in 1989 . In the mid-1990s he became a computer programmer and since then has been working in various financial institutions. Travel photography occupies the central place in his work, but he is also interested in photographing landscapes, cityscapes, sculptures and architecture and people in their everyday life. His works have won awards at a number of juried shows and competitions, both domestic and international. Each image in his exhibit “Twos” has two main characters. The exhibit is meant to provoke the viewer’s curiousity about the depicted relationships.
An opening reception will be held on Jan. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. and a Meet the Photographer event will be held on Jan. 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. The exhibit will run to Feb. 8. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday and by appointment. For more information visit photogallery14.com.
