Two new connecting segments of the Lawrence Hopewell Trail are set to open Oct. 1.
The new eight-foot wide asphalt trail runs from Princeton Pike on the vacant Bristol-Meyers Squipp property, past the Brearley Oak and around the northern tip of the property. It crosses Lewisville Road and connects directly with the Lawrenceville School at its baseball field parking lot before becoming stone dust and winding its way through campus.
The trail segments were completed in three months.
The BMS segment of the trail is 3,100 feet long, and the new Lawrenceville School segment is 1,900 feet long. The trail continues on the interior school road of the campus out to Route 206 and Lawrenceville Main Street.
A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 1 on the BMS property. Attendees should park at the Lawrenceville School lot on Lewisville Road.
Lawrenceville School Head Master Liz Duffy, BMS director of community affairs Fred Egenolf and senior program officer Andrew Johnson at the William Penn Foundation, which provided $248,000 for the construction project, are set to speak.
Light refreshments will be served.
