National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month is set to being with a candlelight vigil set for Oct. 27.
Southern New Jersey Affiliate of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is set to host a PurpleLight National Vigil of Hope 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 27 at Albert Hinds Community Plaza in Princeton.
The Princeton event is one of 80 around the county that plans to turn the country purple — the color of pancreatic cancer awareness — in remembrance of those who fought pancreatic cancer and survivors.
This is the third annual PurpleLight National Vigil of Hope.
Registration is online at purplelight.org.
At six percent, pancreatic cancer has the lowest five-year survival rate of all major cancers. This year, more than 45,000 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States and more than 38,000 will die from the disease. Seventy-three percent of patients die within the first year of diagnosis.
