The Experimental Aircraft Association is set to offer free flights at the Young Eagles Rally.
The Young Eagles flight rally is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 12 at Trenton-Mercer Airport’sRonson Aviation facility, 18 W. Piper Ave., West Trenton. Registration for flights is set to close at 3:30 p.m.
Trained volunteer pilots are set to take Young Eagles participants age eight to 17 in the air to spend a few minutes as “student pilots.” Participants have the opportunity to handle the controls of the airplane under supervision.
Prior to their flights, Young Eagles participants can participate in a “mini-ground school,” where they learn how airplanes work, how pilots fly them and how they ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight.
Visitors will have access to the flight line, giving them a pilot’s-eye of the take-offs, landings and the other airport activities.
Following their flight, each young person is set to receive a certificate making them an official Young Eagle. Their name will then be entered into the “World’s Largest Logbook,” which is on permanent display at the EAA Air Adventure Museum in Oshkosh, Wis. The logbook is also accessible online at youngeagles.org.
Other free activities at the rally include movies, a kid-sized flight simulator and static displays of aircraft. Activities are designed to stimulate interest in aviation and provide opportunities to become involved in the world of aviation
The rally’s rain date is Oct. 13.
The event held by the EAA Chapter #176 is one of hundreds of Young Eagles rallies held each year throughout the U.S. Since it was launched in 1992, volunteer EAA pilots have flown with more than 1.7 million young people in the U.S. and over 90 other countries.
