Robbinsville High School alumnus Jane Bukovec is set to receive the John P. McNutly Scholarship for Excellence in Science and Math from Saint Joseph’s University.
Bukovec, who graduated from RHS in May, will receive a four-year, full-tuition, merit-based scholarship. She will also participate in an intensive mentoring and research program.
An actuarial science major, Bukovec will work with faculty member Debbie Lurie associate professor of mathematics and director of the actuarial science program. Lurie will serve as her mentor and research supervisor.
The scholarship is awarded by Anne Welsh McNulty, whose support of the program honors her late husband, Saint Joseph’s alumnus John P. McNulty ‘74.
The McNulty scholarship program aligns with the university’s efforts to enhance women’s professional success. Despite the increasing number of females who pursue an education in mathematics or the sciences, women are still consistently underrepresented in top positions in those professions.
“John was a firm believer in the power of women to achieve greatness in their chosen fields,” McNulty said in a statement. “He inspired them to take risks and challenged them to tackle problems creatively and enthusiastically.”
The scholars also hold internships in business and research settings, complete a senior capstone experience and attend activities to enhance networking, marketing and communications skills.
