Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli and Assemblywoman Diane Simon visited two Community Options’ group homes in Princeton Oct. 21.
Community Options provide homes for people with disabilities. During their visit, Ciattarelli and Simon met two individuals who just recently moved into the North Harrison Street home.
Lisa, a Brooklyn, N.Y. native, had just spent her first night in the home while Vanessa, originally a South Plainfield resident, has lived in the home for about a week.
The women gave Ciattarelli and Simon a tour of their new home.
Vanessa was recently on the waiting list for a group home and plans start a day program soon. Lisa is hoping to find a job in town. Both are looking forward to exploring the downtown Princeton area.
In 2010, the town of Princeton donated the house on North Harrison Street.
The building was originally a one-story home with two bedrooms. Community Options, renovated it last year, using a zero percent loan from the Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency.
The organization also owns a house on Federal Court, which was purchased in 1994.
For nearly 25 years, Community Options has developed housing and employment programs for people with disabilities. Currently the eighth largest non-profit in New Jersey, Community Options operates with a budget over $96 million and serves thousands of people with disabilities through 38 offices across 8 states.
