Boy Scout Troop 28 members Ryan Morris, Evan Monfre, Jack Wagner and Kyle Jorgensen plant grass on dunes in Long Beach Island Oct. 19, 2013.
Boy Scout Troop 28 from Lawrence helped “restore the shore” on Oct. 19.
Ten Scouts planted dune grass on the new mounds of sand created during the restoration of beaches on Long Beach Island. The Scouts were assigned to the area of Peahala Park.
The new grass will help stabilize the dunes and allow them to grow in size.
After completing their assignment, the scouts enjoyed a barbecue meal sponsored by Bill Hutson, owner of Lorry’s Island End Motel for all the volunteers who planted dune grass.
According to Hutson, more than 100 volunteers planted 14,000 pieces of grass during the restoration project.
Troop 28 is open to boys who have completed fifth grade. Meetings are scheduled for 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday nights at the Troop Hut at Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church.
