Princeton National Rowing Association’s Mercer Rowing Club ended its fall racing season wins at the 40th annual Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta Nov. 10.
Men’s high school varsity 8+ crew and women’s high school 4+ crew came in first place in the 1500m races on the Cooper River in Camden County.
The men’s team came in first place and won the Colletta Family Trophy.
Crew members include Lawrence High School student Conner Ilchert, West Windsor-Plainsboro South students Sean Kelly and Finn Ludwig, Princeton students Elias Abilheira, Aaron Goodman and Tom Walker, Monore Township students Clint Hetzell, Hamilton West student Ron Haines and coxswain Robbinsville student Matt Perez.
After battling win gusts up to 25 mph, the women’s team also came in first. They took home the Braxton Family Trophy.
Crew members include Robbinsville student Rachel Calabro, Hun School student Alex Natale, Hopewell Valley student Badia Shehab and Princeton students Rena White and coxswain Katarina Stough.
After the women’s race, the remaining races were canceled due the high winds and weather.
The Bill Braxton Memorial Regatta honors the spirit of Bill Braxton, a rower who was killed in an auto accident after his sophomore year at Marietta College. Proceeds from the regatta fund two scholarships for college rowers.
