Bordentown City is set to offer chocolates and a little romance in honor of Valentine’s Day with its annual Chocolate Walk and Carriage Rides, set for Feb. 8.
Doors will open at Bordentown’s local establishments along Farnsworth Avenue from 6-9 p.m., as businesses will supply walkers with treats crafted from chocolate. Some stores stick with traditional candy, while others provide a new take on an old favorite.
“Basically each of the stores has something indicative of chocolate,” said April Sette of the Downtown Bordentown Association. “It could be candy or a chocolate martini, just some sort of item involving chocolate. The idea is to get people to come hang out and look around.”
The walk, which is free of charge, allows those who take part to see what Bordentown has to offer.
“The chocolate walk is an event that is free to participate in and basically is driven to generate foot traffic for the retail stores to bring awareness to their existence,” Sette said. “(By doing this), people can see what they have and maybe make a purchase or come back and shop again.”
In addition to the chocolate goodies that the local businesses will supply, stores and restaurants that partake in the walk will also come in handy when it comes to stamping “passports.”
Each passport—which can be found online at the Downtown Bordentown Association’s website—contains eight hearts and, once participating locations sign all the hearts, chocolate walkers become eligible for another treat.
Walkers hand in their completed cards at Nova Computing (located at 117 Farnsworth Ave.), and at the end of the event, the cards are entered into a drawing to win $50 of Bordentown Bucks, which can be used at any of the participating stores or restaurants.
Along with the Chocolate Walk, horse-drawn carriage rides will offer a “romantic place bundle up under a blanket.” The carriages leave from the corner of Farnsworth Avenue and Walnut Street.
