The world premiere of Roundelay: A Comedy, by R.N. Sandberg, will be the second main stage play of Passage Theatre’s 2012-2013 season. The plays is a wild, multicharacter, globe-hopping tale of people trying to make love happen. The show will run at the Mill Hill Playhouse March 21 through April 7. From Boston to India to the Kenyan coast, Sandberg spins a rich, funny, and deeply moving tapestry that explores what it means to pursue, run away from and, finally, surrender to the siren song of love and desire.
Sandberg is an award-winning a playwright and Princeton resident who has won acclaim for his realistic depictions of contemporary life, imaginative treatments of social issues, and inventive adaptations of classic literature. He is a member of the Philadelphia Dramatist Center and the Dramatists Guild and teaches playwriting, acting and dramatic literature at Princeton University. He is also a member of the Passage Play Lab, which develops the work of professional playwrights in the New Jersey and Philadelphia areas.
“The Passage play Lab has become a vital incubator for new plays. To have such a timely play come from our own Lab is a treasure,” said Passage Theatre’s executive artistic director June Ballinger. “What moved and excited me about Roundelay: A Comedy addresses my personal curiosity as a baby boomer: How will the younger generation seek and find true love in today’s global, web mastered universe; how do we follow a primal urge in an increasingly complex world?”
The cast is set to include young actors from Philadelphia and New York: Kate Brennan, Zenzele Cooper, Anthony Cotto, Alexander Elisa and Jarid Faubel.
Passage’s Resident Director, Adam Immerwahr, is guiding the production.
