NJ Sharing Network recognized the start of Donate Life Month by ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange on April 1.
During April, organ donation advocates honor the generosity of organ, eye and tissue donors and support their families.
NJ Sharing Network officials, like Hamilton resident Kevin Engelke, board members, donor families, transplant recipients and volunteers, rang the closing bell to signify hope for the 115,000 men, women and children in the U.S. waiting for organs.
Engelke has volunteered with NJ Sharing Network since the death of his son, Ryan, in November 2011. Ryan, a senior at Clemson University when he passed, was an organ and tissue donor and made his election through the motor vehicle agency. His decision to donate has provided others a way to live and enjoy life.
Ryan’s sister Kristin and stepmother Janet are also volunteers at the network.
NJ Sharing Network is an organ procurement organization responsible for the recovery of organs and tissue for the 5,000 New Jersey residents currently waiting for transplants.
