What if you could prevent family members from hearing the words, “You have cancer”?
Saint Francis Medical Center along with the American Cancer Society, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, University Medical Center Princeton at Plainsboro and YMCA at the Woodbridge Community Center are seeking individuals who are interested in participating in a cancer study.
Cancer Prevention Study-3 is a nationwide study to help researchers better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer.
The study is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. May 21 at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton. Free valet parking is set to be available.
Eligible individuals must be between 30 and 65 years old and never been diagnosed with cancer. The study will enroll a diverse population of 300,000 people across the United States.
Study participants will have their waist measured, give a small blood sample and complete a comprehensive survey online or at the enrollment site. Over the course of the study, participants will be asked to fill out follow-up surveys every few years.
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Americans to participate in lifesaving cancer research,” regional vice president of the American Cancer Society, Natasha Coleman, said in a statement. “We need passionate people who are committed to fighting cancer. While the American Cancer Society has been conducting these types of studies for decades, their world-class research department can only study new and emerging cancer risks if members of the community are willing to become involved.”
