Ashley Warren, a Spanish teacher at High School North, has been awarded a Fulbright-Hays Scholarship for study in Costa Rica. Warren, who will travel to Costa Rica with 13 other teachers, is participating in “Teaching the United Nation’s Millennium Developmental Goals.”
The program provides grants to support overseas projects in training, research, and curriculum development for teachers engaged in a common endeavor. Aimed at building teacher capacity and skills needed for teaching in and preparing students for an increasingly interdependent and global world, the program offers a unique opportunity to strengthen Spanish language skills, deepen knowledge about the MDGs and Costa Rica, develop curriculum, and engage with communities through an in-depth study of Costa Rica’s progress toward attaining the United Nations MDGs. While there, Warren will develop curriculum with local schools and teachers, stay with a Costa Rican family, and serve as a cultural ambassador.
