Robbinsville Municipal Alliance for the Prevention of Substance Abuse, in conjunction with the township recreation department, will hold the 2nd Annual R-MAPSA Father’s Day Fishing Derby on Sunday, June 16 at West Town Center Lake.
Registration begins at 7 a.m., with poles in the water at 8 a.m. Participants will fish for bass, catfish and sunnies.
Catfish already inhabit the lake; other fish will be stocked. There is no license required for this catch-and-release event.
“We really wanted to put on an event that was fun and technology-free,’’ township business administrator and R-MAPSA coordinator Joy Tozzi said. “Father’s Day is very special for the entire family and a wonderful opportunity to put down all of our gadgets for a day and just enjoy the company of friends and loved ones on our beautiful lake.’’
Ryan Bremer won the grand prize last year with a total catch of 15 fish. Prizes again will be awarded based on total fish caught.
Fisherman Fred’s on Route 33 in Hamilton Township will have poles and tackle for sale for those in need. Live bait can be purchased for a nominal fee.
The Robbinsville High School band, along with members of R-MAPSA and the Recreation Committee, will serve as volunteers.
“Our inaugural fishing derby last June was a big success, and we just could not wait to begin planning for 2013,’’ recreation director Joe Barker said. “Along with Community Day, Fishing Derby has become a day a lot of families have circled on their calendar.’’
