Geevers Announces

With the strong encouragement of so many residents throughout West Windsor, I am announcing my candidacy for a third consecutive term to the township council.

By way of background, I’ve served on council for the past eight years and previously for six years on the WW-P School Board during a period of explosive growth. As a council member, I’ve provided leadership as president, vice president, member of the Planning Board, and liaison to other Council appointments. With all the tremendous experience that I have gained through these remarkable years, I give great appreciation and thankfulness to our volunteers.

As our township continues to evolve, we can expect many changes in the next few years. One of those changes that could have a significant impact on all of us is the future development of the Howard Hughes Corporation property. This 658-acre property straddles Clarksville Road and is across from Quakerbridge Mall. While we have not received any proposed plans from the owner, it is clear that the end result must be what is in the best interests of West Windsor.

Regardless of whatever the issue is at hand, I will continue to ensure that information is available to residents and that all opinions are valued during deliberations. Informed residents are one of our town’s greatest resources. Your ideas and comments are essential to an inclusive and collaborative public process.

Meanwhile, some of the major projects that I’ve supported during the past few years include:

New South Lot: With a project partnership between the township and the West Windsor Parking Authority, this approximately 650 space lot will be for the exclusive use of West Windsor residents and is scheduled to open later this year. I served as liaison to the Parking Authority as plans were in the initial stages.

Windsor Plaza Shopping Center: This revitalization project is nearing completion and revenues to the township are being generated as new tenants open their businesses. I served on the planning board when this application was approved.

Schenck Historic Homestead: In addition to the restoration work, the historic barn will soon have a new developer-funded environmental exhibition geared toward fourth grade students. I’ve supported this restoration project as a means to provide educational opportunities about the township’s farming history and to provide a new community space for gatherings.

West Windsor Arts Center: I supported funding for this project, which was completed over several years. The township now has a lease agreement with the West Windsor Arts Council.

Senior Center: I supported the latest addition and renovation work for our nationally accredited senior center and recently voted in favor of the contract for the purchase of a brand new bus for senior transportation.

Bicycle and Pedestrian enhancements: I have supported ongoing projects for sidewalk repair and connectivity. The new rapid flashing beacon at the corner of Route 571 and Sherbrooke Drive will improve safety for pedestrians.

Parks and Recreation: I have supported improvements to Duck Pond Park and Community Park and have voted to approve partnership agreements with various sports groups for lights and field maintenance. As we head into the summer months, please let me and my running mates, Hemant Marathe for mayor and Peter Mendonez for council, know your thoughts on any issues that you would like to see addressed. My phone number is 609-897-9487 and my E-mail address is Lindageevers@verizon.net.

Hemant, Peter, and I bring a wide range of experience that will have a positive impact on our community. With our collaborative working style, West Windsor will become an even better community for people of all ages.

Linda Geevers
